From your first day with the bureau, you will begin to build a broader understanding of the bureau as a whole.  As a result, you will gain a sense of the organizational culture, key issues, and an appreciation for the BLM community that makes us who we are.

As part of this process, each employee participates in training that focuses on:

  • building strong interpersonal relationships throughout the agency;
  • appreciating individual differences; and
  • maintaining supportive work environments that enable mission success.

Six opportunities provide the backbone for your development in these areas:

Orientation

Overview of the BLM Orientation Program.

Local Perspectives

Overview of local perspectives: An optional orientation program provided by some BLM offices.

Pathways

Aimed at employees with 3 to 5 years of experience and designed to develop employees who:
  • Feel kinship to BLM's mission, values, and evolving culture,
  • Gain a sense of place in the organization,
  • Take pride in public service,
  • Embrace the importance of public resources stewardship,
  • Develop leadership skills continuously,
  • Build trusting relationships in BLM, in their communities, and beyond,
  • Take responsibility to effect change and shape the future,
  • Have the tools to succeed in their jobs.

Working in Teams

Open to BLM employees and managers at all levels.  Participants learn how to form an effective team and continue to develop the trust and synergy needed for an efficient team.

Leadership Challenge

Open to employees with 1 year or more of service.  The course provides participants with the tools for developing a plan of action to improve their leadership skills and nurture their professional growth.

Leadership Needs Assessment Tool (LNAT)

This is a leadership skills assessment that collects data from you and your circle of contacts to assess your leadership skills.
