Welcome to the National Monuments, National Conservation Areas and Similar Designations Training Page
This course will familiarize you with BLM Manual 6220 policy for the BLM National Monuments, National Conservation Areas, and Similar Designations (NMs/NCAs) program. This course will help BLM managers and resource specialists understand and implement policy guidance to fulfill the purposes of these designations. NM/NCAs are components of the BLM's National Conservation Lands also known as National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS).
After completion of each module, for credit to appear on your transcript, you will need to go back to DOI Learn to certify.
Course Objectives: Increase knowledge, skills and abilities in:
Module 1: History and Policy of NMs/NCAs including key policy provisions for managing these areas for the purposes they were designated.
Module 2: Interim Guidance including how to manage NMs/NCAs during the interim period between designation and the approved plan.
Module 3: Planning Guidance for addressing NMs/NCAs, through the land use planning process.
Module 4: Program Guidance for management of NMs/NCAs, including use authorizations and valid existing rights.
Module 5: Administrative Guidance: including responsibilities, organizational structure and supplementary rules.
Target Audience: Resource specialists and managers with direct NMs/NCAs responsibilities. Other audiences include BLM employees that support NMs/NCAs functions such as lands and realty specialists, planning and environmental coordinators, law enforcement, outdoor recreation planners, and other program specialists.
