NEPA Bytes are short (10-15 minute) bytes of information that you can consume quickly. It’s what you need, when you need it, without requiring a large investment of time or travel. Think of it as “quick hit” NEPA training. A focused “calibration session” where you can concentrate on learning or improving your skills in one topic incrementally. The NEPA Bytes supplement our other NEPA courses.
Each Byte is taught by one or more subject matter experts from within the BLM and even sometimes outside BLM. The subject matter experts, or SMEs, present tips, tricks, best practices, and field perspectives on using the NEPA process. NEPA Bytes aren’t a review of guidance, you can get that from our other courses or by doing your own research.
One of the obvious uses of the NEPA Bytes is to learn new things or to hone your skills. Another intended use is for a district or field office NEPA lead to play the byte for his or her interdisciplinary team, and then lead a discussion about how you can incorporate any of the tips or tricks you just learned.
