The BLM issues Instruction Memoranda (IMs) and Information Bulletins (IBs) to supplement law, policy, and other guidance. IMs contain new policy or procedures that must reach BLM employees quickly, or interpret existing policy, or provide one-time instructions. IBs contain information of interest to BLM employees, but don't include policy or guidance. IMs remain in effect no longer than 24 months and IBs often have short-duration due dates; therefore, they are not included here.
